Several people have asked me why i'm always painting bears so i figured i'd explain his significance to me. Zane originally started off as an experiment, i thought i'd do a bear as a sort of cliche ode to my home state California. Occasionally Zane will be portrayed as a brown bear and at other times he's a Polar Bear. After the first drawing he grew on me and i decided to name him after my younger brother Connor's middle name, Zane.
Connor has Autism, and i feel that this relates to my Zane paintings perfectly as a sort of inaudible character. At times Zane may look indifferent, but the complexity and color scheme of his geometric layout may seem to speak for him. He serves as a vehicle to show how I may have been feeling at the time (whether it's about Connor or just life in general). It is also significant that you never see polar bears in color-rich environments. This gives me the chance to show people something that they recognize in a an entirely new light.
